History of the Historic Beal House - circa 1833
Built in 1833 as a farm by the Flanders Family, the house now looks nothing like the original. The now Inn, was the main house and the porch was a walkway to the now restaurant that was the carriage barn. The transformations are occurring to this very day with building renovations and owner changes, but the character of this great place has remained the same and true to its history.
The home, then located at 247 Main St, changed ownership after the original man-of-the-house Nathaniel Flanders died in 1897, his son George Flanders born in Littleton in 1861, sold the family farm to George Morse in 1904. Kate Morse after being widowed sold the home to Martha Cushman in 1932, who then sold it to Justus and Marjorie Beal in 1939. The inn was then opened and operated by Mrs. Beal. The inn even then, had a reputation for elegance and style while maintaining the welcoming family feel. When Mr. Justus Beal died in 1944, Marjorie continued to run the inn and later remarried to Edward Grady in 1950. The inn was run and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Grady until they retired and sold the business in 1985.
Although the building has changed hands in 1988, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2006, 2008, and now 2009, and foreclosed on twice, the inn and now restaurant still maintain that same feel that Mrs. Beal created back in 1939; Elegance, sophistication, welcoming, charming, and peaceful.
The now 9 bedroom Inn, still sees visitors coming from around the globe and the 3 star rated restaurant receives raves from equal distances. Under the ownership of GDK Holdings, LLC and G. David Keller, and under the management of David Keller, Operations Manager, Laura Brown and Chef, Nicholas LeMire.
